The next one or two letters represent the year of manufacture, which you can look up using Remington Serial Number Lookup. This code is located on the left side of the barrel, just in front of the receiver. You can still use the two-letter code on the barrel of the rifle or shotgun to look up the firearm's age. Serial numbers were not a requirement untilso older firearms may not have serial numbers. A serial number is printed on the receiver of each Remington rifle or shotgun, provided it's a newer model. You can also locate the serial number on the rifle's receiver and request an age approximation by emailing Remington support. This service uses the two-letter codes stamped on the barrel of Remington rifles and shotguns to determine the age of the firearm. ![]()
